My first Random post….Yay!

So this will be more of a rant but also a good topic for conversation.
Feel free to reply and let me know what you think!

This was something that was brought to my attention while I was reading
Fallen (the first of the Fallen series) by Lauren Kate.

Why are fallen angels/vampires/immortal beings always hanging out at high schools?!

Some novels actually have good excuses (i.e. Becca Fitzpatrick’s novel:
Hush, Hush) but most don’t. In Fallen we are made to believe that
these Fallen Angels, creatures with power, immortality, and the ability to fly
hang around a boarding school for who knows how long. That’s not all folks, oh no, they don’t just ‘hang around’ but they go to class and serve detention and get
bossed around. These guys (and gals) are OLD, they are DIVINE, so
don’t they have better things to do than redo a high school education?
I mean, the good guys, the ones that are on God’s side, they can’t go around
and help people that need it? Maybe volunteer in a third world country or something? Instead they are wasting away at a boarding school with some of their buddies.

And in Twilight (as much as I hate to speak of this book and it’s
‘saga’ by Stephanie Meyer), the Cullens move around often but the kids always
start out in high school. I know they have to stay in dark areas or their special sparkle would drive people crazy and they’d be hunted down with pitchforks,
but do they need to relearn Biology every five years? This is what
these ultra-special immortal people are doing with their lives.
Not helping humanity, though they’ll live here longer than any of
us regular people and benefit from a better world more than we will,
they go to school and make a scene in the cafeteria because they’re just
so beautiful.

I know Patch (from Hush, Hush –yes I’m talking about this novel
again!) is a bad guy, but at least he has a proper reason for going to school.
And when he doesn’t, he stops going. Because being over a thousand years old (or
even hundreds of years old) means that it’s downright creepy for you to show up
in a high school. Unless you all attend a supernatural X-Men type of school with
your supernatural friends, then I guess that’s okay…

And while I’m ranting- What about those people that go “Ewww, he/she’s
ten years older than you? You can’t date them, that’s gross!” but love
Twilight or other paranormal books? Edward is over a hundred years older
than Bella, but because he’s hawt it’s okay.
I bet if he looked like a saggy grandpa, she wouldn’t be into him.

But I digress. Basically, authors, if you’re writing a book about
immortal beings, just make sure it seems realistic. I know most of you don’t
have your all-powerful creatures hanging out in school for no reason, but some
of you do. And if you do, well you’ve been warned
.
I’m watching you
